Estimation & Design Engineer (Mechanical)


Lantro Tech’s Estimation & Design Engineers are individuals skilled in estimating, bidding, material procurement, execution, documentation and project management. E&D Engineers play a crucial role in the construction and project management process by providing accurate and detailed cost estimates, shop drawings for Mechanical & Plumbing in various construction projects. The role involves analysing project requirements, interpreting Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing drawings and specifications, obtaining quotes for subcontracted work, defining material requests, incorporate value engineering techniques, and preparing comprehensive estimates to ensure the successful execution of projects within budgetary constraints.


  • Be an active part of the Estimating Department by performing estimating activities including, estimating, planning, determining preliminary project cost and schedule, coordination of estimating activities, performing equipment and material take-off, sending vendor and subcontractor quotations, to final preparation of cost estimate and scope of work.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of HVAC project specifications and blueprints.
  • Prepare guidelines for the scope of work and responsibilities that are included in the drawings / documents.
  • Obtain and review quotations for all Mechanical and Plumbing Equipment and material other than the fixed rate items.
  • Maintain a database for cost price lists for Mechanical and Plumbing material and labour man hours cost.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, considering labor, materials, and equipment expenses for HVAC Ductwork, Piping, Controls and Control Wiring, AC, CRAC, CRAH Units.
  • Work with bidders on tenders communicating key timelines in respect of bid responses and ensure that all contributors have a clear understanding of the scope of their bid.
  • Utilize engineering expertise to perform in-depth analysis of project scopes, identifying potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering options to optimize cost efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed and organized estimate documentation, including breakdowns of costs, assumptions made, and methodologies employed. Keep records of all estimates and bid-related documents.
  • Generate and track bids and budget estimates from the pre-concept design stage to the construction document stage.
  • Present value engineering and cost-saving opportunities to clients as required to meet budget constraints.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, materials, and construction methods related to Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems. Identify opportunities for process improvement within the estimation process.
  • Recognize/identify potential document discrepancies and errors and develop RFI questions for a timely response.
  • Preparation of shop drawings during project execution stages to facilitate project management department.
  • Assist in tracking project costs against estimates, highlighting discrepancies and suggesting corrective actions to ensure projects remain on budget.
  • Performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer- assisted design or engineering software and equipment such as AutoCAD.
  • Develop scope letters for each bid and budget, review bids from sub- contractors, review scopes of work, and analyse costs as bids are received.
  • Evaluated change orders and informed project management about their potential implications on project cost, schedule, and quality
  • Attend meetings with the shareholders to update and discuss the project conditions, estimate totals, and to incorporate value engineering where required.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams.


  • 2-5 years of experience in Mechanical & Plumbing design, estimation and execution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience as an HVAC Estimator.
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems, equipment, and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of Heat load calculations, Duct and Pipe sizing and international codes, HAP load calculations and Ducting / Piping systems, AHSRAE & SMACNA Standards.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality results within established timelines.
  • Strong computer, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity in Estimating & Project Management software’s such as Trimble MEP, Plan Swift and On center.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
